2024 Annual Recap: Motorsports Gateway Howell’s 2024 Construction Season

DECEMBER 31ST, 2024

As we reflect on 2024, Motorsports Gateway Howell has achieved remarkable progress in its journey to become Michigan’s premier motorsports destination. From early infrastructure development in the first quarter to the paving of the South Circuit in the third, this year was transformative. Let's take a look back at the 2024 development timeline, quarter-by-quarter.

FIRST QUARTER

The first quarter of 2024 set a strong foundation for Motorsports Gateway Howell with essential progress on infrastructure and groundwork. Early in the year, the team was focused on the access road’s development despite weather challenges that delayed trenching for garage condo foundations. Construction goals remained on track with plans to begin garage condo trenching in April. Materials were scheduled for delivery, and preparations advanced for paddock areas, stormwater systems, and access roads, setting the stage for summer activity.

SECOND QUARTER

Fourth quarter brought exciting advancements, including major strides on the South Circuit, which progressed through soil testing and sub-base compaction for the track. Garage condo construction moved forward, with Building 7 foundation trenching and vertical materials arriving on site. While structural framing began on Building 7, finish grading for the remaining condo buildings was underway.

THIRD QUARTER

Stormwater management infrastructure, including track edge drains and sediment basins, reached key completion points in third quarter. The South Circuit neared completion with AJAX Paving installing the asphalt base for its 15-turn, 1.75-mile layout. Infrastructure upgrades included utility conduit installations and pad preparation for garage condo Buildings 1, 2, 3, and 8, with Building 7 enclosed and materials arriving for Buildings 1 and 2. The completion of a temporary paddock positions the site for its debut race season, with final track details set for 2025.

Fourth Quarter

Closing out the Michigan 2024 Construction Season, temporary power is installed to support operations in 2025. The foundation for Building 1 is completed, and with materials already onsite and ready, enclosure is scheduled at the first light of optimal weather. Final adjustments to the pad of Building 2 take place, and materials are stored for vertical construction in 2025.
