Meet Paul Oz, an extraordinary talent known for his emotive portrayals of motorsport legends and scenes through painting and sculpture. A Journey to Mastery

Paul Oz's journey into the world of automotive art is as compelling as his creations. Reflecting on his early interests, Paul shares, "I fell in love with F1 at age 10, mesmerized by Senna’s black and gold Lotus—something about it just looked so cool." Despite an early love for drawing and a particular fascination with F1's aesthetics, Paul initially pursued a career in aerospace engineering. However, life’s unpredictable twists led him back to his true passion after a stint in the automotive software industry ended during the 2008 financial crisis. After a defining moment in 2009, when his portrait of Ayrton Senna was showcased at the Official F1 party in London, Paul's artistry in capturing the essence of motorsports catapulted into the limelight. Embracing his artistic calling, Paul transitioned from a part-time hobbyist to a professional artist, with his work gaining rapid acclaim. Paul recalls, "With no option but to focus on what was by then a part-time hobby of painting for income, it went crazy almost immediately." His portrait of Ayrton Senna was quickly purchased by McLaren and featured within their renowned MTC Boulevard. Unsurprisingly, Paul's work is now showcased within motorsport galleries and events around the globe.

Oz’s Artistic Process

Paul Oz's art is highly influenced by the "dynamic and energy" of his subjects. His creative process is intuitive, starting with a clear vision of the finished piece before he even begins. "I never start work on anything unless I can see clearly in my mind what it will look like once finished," he explains. Paul works predominantly with oil paints and bronze, and adopted these mediums for their ability to convey the intensity and texture that his subjects demand. Preferring oil paints for their vibrancy and the textural depth they allow, Paul applies paint directly with pallet knives, adding a palpable intensity to his work. His sculptures, often created in collaboration with one of the world's most prestigious bronze foundries, incorporate innovative materials like carbon fiber and magnesium, reflecting the same innovative spirit found in motorsport engineering. “When I work with the worlds best there are no limits”, he states, “and that’s perhaps more inspirational than anything, when truly embraced.”
